Go figure....Friday was sunny and 60 degrees... today (Sunday) is 60 degrees, although overcast and rain is forecast...but yesterday, our race day, was upper 40s with the wind blowing. And it was that way all day...the forecasted 60 degrees never even tried to make an appearance. But we raced and had fun just the same. We had a great turnout, got started about 10:30 and ran until about 4:30. We had a lunch break during which we enjoyed a great demo by Chuck Perkins with his new turbine powered delta. This is a scratch built project by Chuck and he did an outstanding job of engineering everything and it flies great! And Chuck did a great job flying it. It takes off from the ground on some small skids and doesn't even scorch the grass. Very stable and very fast. It was clocked yesterday at 173 mph and should be able to go a little faster with better weather. The low ceiling yesterday prevent him from getting very high and getting a good run at the radar. Chuck was also going to test fly his big Gee Bee but a rudder/tailwheel problem caused the plane to make a turn and find a picnic table that shortened the prop somewhat. Luckily, the prop and a broken cable fitting were the only casualties so hopefully we will see another attempt soon. Oh, it seems I misspoke in my email Friday when I mentioned the Chuck had done work on the Gee Bee.....it seems Wayne Stevenson is the one that has done all the work! And though the B-29 was ready to go yesterday, the cold, windy, and damp weather also dampened my enthusiasm for flying it.

We would like to get another race in before the busy spring flying season. Also need to have a Stick contest. So here are a couple of dates that are open:

March 13 - Stick Contest
March 27 - Quickie Race

Below are the results of yesterday's race. Again, a great turnout in spite of the cold conditions. We had quite a few new faces and I think everyone had a great time. Thanks to Robin for all the work doing the matrix and scoring.
